McLain Ward And His Amazing Mare Are the Winners At The 2018 Winter Equestrian Festival!

Nobody thought that Kristen Vanderveen was beatable. Then, at the 2018 Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL, this rider was defeated by McLain Ward by more than a second and a half in the $35,000 Bainbridge 1.45 Classic.

Ward was a 2017 World Cup Champion and previously won Thursday’s $132,000 Equinimity WEF Challenge CSI5*. As he shared, Kristen had a much bigger stride on her horse than he had on his. But his mare was very fast and kept on going where a lot of the horses had to slow down. That’s how he managed to catch the second to last fence very well and he could not achieve that without his mare. She made a great effort and he had an amazing jump out there.

He shared that she is a brood mare and Owen Rogers, her caretaker, has done an incredible work with her. They try to keep it really low-stress because the mare is super ready and competitive. Go riding!
